The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the travel industry on a global scale.

With barely anyone travelling outside of the country due to travel restrictions, an increase of domestic travel has increased.

The Niagara region brings millions of tourists yearly largely due to the falls which is the most famous natural attraction.

Unfortunately, the pandemic has affected travel to this region since the beginning of the pandemic until recently as Canadian’s are looking to local vacation spots.

Nonetheless, due to the restrictions from American tourists, this area is still greatly impact and many businesses, bed and breakfasts and hotels have been greatly affected.

Almost 1/3 of visitors in Niagara are from the US and overseas.

With the US dollar carrying more value to the Canadian dollar, American’s generally spend more money when visiting Canada.

Niagara wineries have implemented a maximum capacity with social distancing rules when visiting. It’s best to call wineries you expect to visit to see if you need to book a time slot.

In an effort to support local travel, the government will be investing more in promoting domestic vacations such as visiting Niagara.

The Niagara Region has invested in local marketing for the Niagara Region and encourage Ontarian’s to buy local.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Tourism, Niagara Falls Tourism and surrounding areas will receive part of a $4.5 million dollar boost from the government.
